With the monsoon season approaching, the District Administration of Mangan is taking proactive steps to ensure safety and preparedness. A crucial meeting to assess monsoon readiness was chaired today by District Collector Anant Jain at the conference hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Mangan.
The meeting saw the participation of Superintendent of Police Sonam Detchu Bhutia, Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Block Development Officers from all four subdivisions, Heads of Offices, officials from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), and various departmental officers.
Karma Dorjee Wazarlingpa, District Project Officer of the Land Revenue and Disaster Management (LRDM) Department, delivered the welcome address and outlined the agenda, which focused on inter-departmental coordination, readiness for monsoon-triggered disasters, and measures to safeguard vulnerable communities.
In his opening remarks, DC Anant Jain called for round-the-clock vigilance from all departments during the monsoon. He directed each line department to nominate nodal officers and maintain seamless coordination to respond swiftly to any emergency. He emphasized the importance of teamwork and clearly defined roles in disaster mitigation and response.
The District Collector presented a detailed review of the monsoon action plans for all departments. He informed the house about the current availability of disaster relief materials andar rescue equipment under the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). He further instructed the Roads and Bridges Department, along with other road-maintaining agencies, to compile and update a list of personnel and equipment that can be swiftly mobilized in the event of landslides or road blockages.
Ensuring the supply of essential commodities to remote and landslide-prone areas was also a priority discussed during the meeting. DC Jain underlined the need to stock essential supplies in vulnerable zones before the onset of heavy rains. Given the unpredictable weather patterns of the region, he also instructed relevant departments to clear all drains and jhoras (water channels) on a priority basis to prevent waterlogging and flash floods.
Officers from line departments and BRO gave detailed updates on their ongoing preparedness efforts. They shared insights into the progress of monsoon readiness tasks, availability of manpower, and the challenges that could arise during extreme weather.
