A 40-year-old man, Bahadur Tamang, was found hanging from a tree in a jungle near Lower Yangtey on May 30 evening.
According to a written report submitted to the Gyalshing Police Station at around 6:00 p.m. on May 30, 2025, Shyam Tamang, the younger brother of the deceased, detailed the discovery. Shyam, a 36-year-old resident of Lower Yangtey said that local villagers found his elder brother, Bahadur, at approximately 5:00 p.m., suspended from the branch of a Katus tree with a nylon rope.
Preliminary inquiries by the Gyalshing Police revealed that Bahadur Tamang was a daily wage laborer who had battled chronic alcoholism for years. Described by family and neighbors as mentally unstable, Bahadur often wandered away from home, frequently in an inebriated state.
The police have yet to confirm the cause of death, but the circumstances suggest a possible suicide. Officials are approaching the case with care, noting Bahadur’s history of mental health struggles and addiction.
Following the report, police officials, accompanied by Block Development Officer (BDO) Gyarap Dorjee Bhutia, conducted an inquest over Bahadur’s body under section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The procedure, carried out in the presence of independent witnesses and family members, adhered to legal protocols to document the scene and circumstances. The body was then transported to District Hospital Gyalshing for a medico-legal autopsy.
