A comprehensive health camp and sensitization programme was held in Makha today, bringing together healthcare services and awareness on disability rights for the benefit of the local community. The initiative was spearheaded by the Department of Cooperation in collaboration with the Central Referral Hospital and the Composite Regional Centre, as part of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025.

The day-long event saw active participation from residents, with free medical check-ups, consultations, and health screenings made available. A special highlight was the use of the iBreast Exam technology—a radiation-free, painless, and portable tool used for breast cancer screening. Its suitability for rural and low-infrastructure areas made it a valuable addition to the outreach efforts.

Doctors from Central Referral Hospital provided medical advice, and a Jan Aushadhi Kendra, set up by Luing Perbing MPCS (PACS), distributed free generic medicines and shared information on affordable healthcare options.

The event also included a sensitization programme conducted by the Composite Regional Centre, focusing on disability rights, inclusion, and the importance of community support for persons with disabilities. In a heartening move, two wheelchairs were distributed to persons with disabilities, promoting mobility and independence.

Key officials, including the Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies and Deputy Registrar, attended the programme, reinforcing the cooperative sector’s commitment to social welfare.

Organized under the theme of the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, the event highlighted how joint efforts by government departments, health institutions, and social welfare centres can create lasting impact.
