To address the growing demand for cooking gas in the high-altitude region of Lachen, the Food and Civil Supplies Department of Mangan District successfully delivered a consignment of filled LPG cylinders to the area. The consignment was sent via a challenging route that passed through Lachung, Yumthang, Dongkyala, Gurudongmar and Thangu before finally reaching Lachen.

The delivery comes in response to a formal request made by the Hon’ble Pipon of Lachen Dzomsa, Cho Bandu Lachenpa, who had raised concerns about the shortage of LPG cylinders in the region. The need was deemed urgent due to the remote location of Lachen and the harsh terrain that often disrupts regular supply routes.

The entire effort was carried out under the guidance and directives of Samdup Lepcha, the MLA from the Lachen-Mangan Constituency and Minister in the Government of Sikkim. His close coordination with the District Collector of Mangan District played a key role in ensuring the safe and timely delivery of the essential fuel supply.

Local officials said that the delivery was not easy, as the route is one of the most difficult stretches in the district. It crosses through high passes and rugged mountainous terrain, where weather conditions can turn hostile quickly. Despite these challenges, the administration ensured the safe transport of the cylinders, making them available to residents who were in urgent need.

Palden N Lachungpa, District Civil Supplies Officer (DCSO) of Mangan, confirmed that more consignments will be sent in the coming days, depending on further demands made by the traditional heads of Lachen Dzomsa. He noted that the department is committed to ensuring that essential supplies like LPG continue to reach even the most remote parts of the district.
