Health Minister G.T. Dhungel officially inaugurated a 40-litre capacity Water ATM machine at STNM Hospital, Sochakgang. The water dispensing unit was generously donated by the Lions Club of Gangtok.
A small yet meaningful inaugural ceremony was held at the hospital premises to mark the occasion. The event was attended by several important dignitaries including Medical Superintendent Dr. Ruth Yonzon, Additional Medical Superintendent Dr. Suresh Madan Rasaily, and Dr. Chintamani Sharma, along with senior members of the hospital staff and representatives from the Lions Club.
The Water ATM machine is designed to provide clean and safe drinking water to patients, attendants, and visitors at the hospital. With a capacity of 40 litres, the machine is expected to be especially useful during the monsoon season, when the risk of waterborne diseases increases significantly.
Speaking at the event, Minister G.T. Dhungel appreciated the Lions Club for their thoughtful contribution. He said that access to clean drinking water is a basic necessity, especially in healthcare settings where hundreds of people visit daily. He also praised the hospital administration for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and patient care.
The Lions Club of Gangtok shared that the installation was part of their continued commitment to social service and public health. Representatives from the club expressed hope that this small contribution would make a real difference in the lives of people who come to the hospital for treatment.
Dr. Ruth Yonzon, the Medical Superintendent of STNM Hospital, thanked the donors and said that this kind of public support goes a long way in strengthening health services. “We are grateful to the Lions Club for this generous donation. Providing safe drinking water is crucial, and this machine will help prevent many seasonal illnesses,” she added.
