A leopard killed a domestic goat in Upper Timburbong early this morning, sparking renewed concerns about the growing presence of wild animals near human settlements in Sikkim’s rural areas.
The goat, owned by LP Dahal, a resident of house number 25 in the village, was reportedly attacked near his backyard. The animal was killed on the spot, with clear signs of a leopard attack observed at the scene. The incident has left the local community shaken, especially as this is not the first such occurrence in recent weeks.
Kamal Bhattarai, the Panchayat member of Sansari Ward No. 1, visited the site shortly after receiving reports of the incident. Speaking to residents, Bhattarai assured that he would inform the concerned authorities and push for increased vigilance in the area. “Wildlife entering our villages is not a new issue, but it has become more frequent. People are afraid, and we need immediate action,” he said.
