Heavy rainfall and dense fog have causeddisruption across Sikkim blocking key roads and forcing the closure of multiple highways. A major landslide at Taar Khola (10th Mile) on National Highway 10 (NH-10) has completely blocked the route, while foggy conditions in various parts of the state have led authorities to shut down several highways to ensure commuter safety.
The blockage at Taar Khola, a crucial lifeline connecting Sikkim to the rest of the country has brought traffic to a standstill, stranding several vehicles and affecting the movement of goods and passengers.
Elsewhere in the state, particularly in the hilly and forested regions fog has reduced visibility to dangerous levels, prompting precautionary highway closures. Landslides have also been reported in several areas, especially in the West and East districts, raising concerns about further road damage and safety hazards.
In a related development, the Soreng District Police have issued a movement restriction order for heavy vehicles on NDP Road near Daramdin, where a section of the road at the Box Cutting area (19th kilometre mark) has suffered rain-induced damage. The order, issued by SP Nahkul Pradhan under Section 159(2) of the Sikkim Police Act, 2008 is aimed at preventing accidents and allowing restoration work by the Roads & Bridges Department to continue without obstruction.
