Chewang Laden Lachungpa (Khyoungbarpa), daughter of Kassang Chewang Khyoungbarpa from the remote mountain village of Lachung in North Sikkim, has achieved a remarkable milestone by cracking the GATE 2025 (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) in the Civil Engineering stream.
An alumnus of Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok, and a graduate from Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT), Chewang Laden's achievement has brought immense pride not only to her family and village but also to the entire region of North Sikkim. GATE is one of the toughest competitive examinations in the country, serving as a gateway for postgraduate engineering education and prestigious jobs in central government and public sector undertakings.
Very few students from Sikkim, and even fewer from the high-altitude regions like Lachung, manage to clear this rigorous exam.
