The much-awaited election for the Pipon of Lachung Dzomsa for the year 2024-2025 was held at Lachung Thomchi Ground on December 31. The election saw two candidates vying for the esteemed position from Leema Block: Sonam Tshering Lachungpa and Pema Wangdi Lachungpa.
The Dzomsa, a traditional system of self-governance and administrative institution that has been in place for centuries in the regions of Lachung and Lachen in North Sikkim, is headed by the "Pipon." This election holds significant importance as the Pipon plays a key role in overseeing the local administration and cultural matters within these communities.
However, according to sources, the result for Leema Block has been put on hold due to the ongoing administrative holidays. The announcement of the election results is now expected to be made by January 8, 2025.
