The Travel Agents Association of Sikkim (TAAS) has clarified that the recent bridge collapse near Lachung does not impact accessibility to key tourist destinations such as Yumthang and Yumisamdong.
Sonam Norgay Lachungpa, President of TAAS, issued a statement addressing concerns about travel disruptions. He explained that the collapsed bridge connects only Fakha village to Sharchok village and does not affect major routes to Lachung, Yumthang, or Yumisamdong.
“An existing footbridge is available for connecting the two villages, ensuring pedestrian access. However, vehicular movement on this specific route will remain halted until the bridge is restored,” Lachungpa said.
The clarification comes amidst concerns raised by travelers and locals regarding potential disruptions in the region. Lachung and its surrounding areas remain vital for tourism in Sikkim, drawing visitors year-round for their scenic beauty and cultural significance.
The TAAS urged travelers to continue their plans and said that the affected area does not impede travel to popular tourist destinations.
