Kunga Tashi Lepcha, a resident of 23 Syari Constituency, has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim for providing a grant in recognition of his achievement—his selection for the prestigious Magnum Foundation Fellowship 2025 for his photo project in Siliguri.
The Magnum Foundation, a world-renowned organization based in New York, USA, has chosen Kunga Tashi Lepcha as one of ten fellows for its esteemed program this year. The fellowship commenced with an intensive workshop in Oaxaca, Mexico, in December 2024, where he was mentored by acclaimed artists from across the world.
The six-month fellowship requires each selected artist to work on their proposed project in their respective regions from January to May 2025, under the guidance of mentors from Magnum Photos. In June 2025, all fellows will reconvene in Oaxaca to showcase their completed works in a final exhibition.
Expressing his gratitude, Kunga Tashi Lepcha acknowledged the Chief Minister's unwavering support for the arts and young talents of Sikkim. He highlighted how this encouragement has enabled artists like him to gain global exposure and contribute to the world of visual storytelling.
