‘Khau Galli’; a dedicated street food zone was officially inaugurated at Namnang Walkway in Gangtok. Developed through the combined efforts of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) and the Health and Urban Development Departments of the Government of Sikkim, this new food hub promises to offer a unique taste of Sikkim while promoting local entrepreneurship.

The project aims to do more than just serve food; it’s a step toward strengthening local livelihoods, especially for women. All 20 stalls at Khau Galli are run by women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs), making it a shining example of community participation and women-led economic activity. These SHGs bring a variety of traditional Sikkimese dishes to the forefront, giving both residents and tourists a genuine flavour of the region.

At the inauguration, officials praised the teamwork between local bodies and government departments. The initiative is seen as a timely boost to Sikkim’s tourism and small business ecosystem. With a focus on cleanliness, safety, and quality, Khau Galli is being positioned as not just a food street but a cultural attraction.
