The Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim (Lepcha) Memorial Trust has announced that renowned writer and journalist Pravin Khaling has been selected for the prestigious Dr. Shova Kanti Thegim (Lepcha) Smriti Purashkar, 2025, for his acclaimed book Chiya Guff, a collection of essays reflecting the socio-cultural fabric of Himalayan communities.
The award, presented annually on July 4—the birth anniversary of late Dr. Thegim—includes a cash prize of ₹50,001, a Tamra Patra, and a certificate. The decision was made during a Trust meeting held on May 19, based on the recommendation of a two-tier selection committee.

His notable works include Jhari, an anthology of love poems, and Chiya Guff (2023). He also founded Chiya Kavita, Sikkim in 2014, a vibrant platform for budding and established poets.
The Trust will also felicitate four personalities this year for their contributions to journalism and the arts: journalist Subash Deepak, theatre artists Rupa Tamang and Bikram Gautam, and artist Deepa Rai.
The award ceremony will be held on July 4, 2025, in Gangtok.
