Jorethang Police arrested a local resident in possession of a substantial quantity of controlled narcotics. The accused, identified as Mogle Azam, hails from Masjid Line in Jorethang and was apprehended during a focused operation aimed at curbing the rising menace of drug abuse in the region.

According to police sources, the operation led to the seizure of a large number of blue-colored capsules along with multiple bottles of codeine-based cough syrup — both classified as controlled substances under existing drug laws. The confiscated items are believed to be intended for illegal distribution in the area, raising serious concerns about the reach of narcotic networks operating within the state.

A case has been formally registered against the accused under the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. These legislations carry strict provisions and penalties for the possession, distribution, and sale of banned substances.

Police officials have confirmed that a full-scale investigation is currently underway to trace the origin of the contraband and to dismantle the network involved. “We are not only focused on arresting peddlers but also on identifying the source and supply chain of these substances,” a senior police officer said.
