In North Bengal, several prominent leaders from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Indian National Congress officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday. The induction took place during a programme organized by the BJP Siliguri unit at the Diamond Yuvak Vrinda Club ground in Ward No. 40, Siliguri, on the occasion of Bharat Keshari Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee’s 124th birth anniversary.

Among the key figures who joined the BJP were Sudip Sarkar, a known leader from the TMC, and Bapi Dey and Rakesh Agarwal from the Congress. These leaders were accompanied by several supporters.

Welcoming the new members, Raju Bista, Member of Parliament from Darjeeling and National Spokesperson of the BJP, expressed his happiness at their decision. “Their entry into the BJP family strengthens our efforts to build a stronger and more united region. I wholeheartedly welcome them,” Bista said.

The event witnessed the presence of several top BJP leaders from the region. These included Jalpaiguri MP Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy, Dabgram-Phulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee, Siliguri MLA Dr. Shankar Ghosh, and BJP Siliguri President Arun Mandal. Local BJP karyakartas and supporters were also present in large numbers to witness the joining.

The timing of this induction is politically symbolic as it coincides with the birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who is remembered for his contribution to India’s unity and integrity. Many speakers at the event paid tribute to Dr. Mookerjee and said that the joining of new leaders on this day was a tribute to his ideals of nationalism and development.

Raju Bista further added that the BJP is committed to working for the people and ensuring good governance. He said, “We are here not just to win elections but to bring real change in the lives of the people. I am confident that the leaders who have joined us today will play an important role in serving the public.”
