The Indian Army's Trishakti Corps organized a veterinary camp at Tsomgo, located in the high-altitude region, as part of the ongoing Operation Sadbhavana. The veterinary camp was focused on providing essential care to yaks, which are central to the local economy in Tsomgo. These sturdy animals are not only a primary source of income for herders, but they also play an essential role in transportation and survival in the tough mountain conditions. However, for these communities, accessing proper veterinary care is a challenge due to the region’s geographical isolation. As a result, the health of livestock often goes unaddressed, putting both the animals and their owners at risk.
Recognizing this issue, the Trishakti Corps arranged for a team of civil veterinary doctors to visit Tsomgo and offer specialized care for the yaks. These skilled professionals conducted detailed health check-ups and provided treatment for several common yak ailments, such as skin infections, leg sores, eye issues, and fever. Given the unique nature of these conditions, the presence of trained civil vets was crucial for effective treatment and care. Along with the immediate treatments, preventive medications were also provided, along with necessary supplies to help manage recurring health issues.
To ensure lasting impact, the veterinary camp also featured educational sessions aimed at the yak owners. The goal was to teach best practices in livestock care, covering aspects such as feeding, hygiene, and overall handling of the animals. These efforts are intended to improve the health and welfare of the yaks, leading to long-term benefits for the local herders. Additionally, the camp provided important calf feed and nutrients to ensure the young yaks were properly cared for.
The successful execution of this veterinary camp highlighted the excellent cooperation between the Indian Army and civil authorities. While the Army took charge of organizing the event and managing the logistics in the difficult terrain, the expertise of the civil veterinary doctors ensured the provision of professional, high-quality care. This collaborative effort not only helped address immediate medical needs but also built trust and goodwill between the Army and the local people.
Tsomgo’s remote location often leaves it cut off from essential services, which makes events like the veterinary camp all the more vital. The camp did more than just provide medical assistance; it sent a strong message of support from the Indian Army, emphasizing their role as a key partner in the development of border areas. Through Operation Sadbhavana, the Trishakti Corps continues to strengthen the bond between the armed forces and the people they serve, extending their efforts beyond just security to tackle the real challenges faced by these isolated communities.
