The Indian Army, in collaboration with the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) Project Swastik, has successfully constructed a 180-foot Bailey Bridge over the Teesta River at Sanklang in Mangan, North Sikkim. The bridge was inaugurated on January 2, 2025.
The Bailey Bridge, a feat of engineering excellence, is expected to improve accessibility in the rugged terrain of North Sikkim, which is often hampered by harsh weather conditions and challenging landscapes. The initiative addresses a long-standing need of the local population and aligns with the government’s focus on improving connectivity in border areas.
Apart from facilitating seamless mobility, the bridge is set to boost tourism, a critical sector for Sikkim's economy.
