The stretch between Pani House and Mayfair in the 25th Upper Tadong constituency witnessed a beautiful transformation today as the fifth day of Shramdaan unfolded with a focused plantation drive. The initiative, led by Hon’ble Minister and Area MLA Shri GT Dhungel, aims to beautify highway corners through the planting of flowering plants and create a more vibrant and green environment for the people of Sikkim.
The day’s event saw enthusiastic participation from leaders, officials, and local residents. Among the prominent participants were Shri Karma Subba (Officer on Special Duty to the Hon’ble Chief Minister – Political Affairs), Shri Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha (APS), and several councillors including Shri Norbu Tamang, Shri Milan Gautam, Smt Rubina Gurung, Shri Chewang Thendup Lepcha, and Shri Sonam Pintso Bhutia (Vice-President, Gangtok District). Shri Bimal Thattal, President of the Constituency Level Committee (CLC), also took part alongside many active executive members and dedicated party workers.
This green movement echoes the larger vision of Sikkim’s Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), who has often spoken about the importance of staying connected with nature. Through his guidance and encouragement, plantation drives like these have been encouraged across constituencies to promote cleaner surroundings and a healthier ecosystem.
“This is more than just planting flowers,” said one of the local councillors. “It’s about bringing people together, spreading awareness about the environment, and building a sense of shared responsibility for our public spaces.”
What made today’s event particularly special was the turnout. People from every ward in the area came forward to contribute, showing unity and a shared commitment to public welfare. Residents from neighboring constituencies also joined in, adding to the collective energy. With spades, saplings, and smiles, the participants worked side by side, embodying the true spirit of Shramdaan—voluntary labor for the community’s benefit.
Minister GT Dhungel, known for his grassroots engagement, personally took part in the planting activity, setting an example for others. His hands-on approach and encouraging presence inspired many to dig in—literally—and participate in the effort.
