In view of a damaged road formation at the Box Cutting area in Daramdin along the NDP Road at the 19th kilometre mark, the Superintendent of Police (SP), Soreng District, Mr. Nahkul Pradhan, has issued a formal vehicle movement restriction and diversion order to ensure public safety and smooth restoration work.
According to the order, which came into effect from July 29, 2025, there will be complete restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles along the stretch of NDP Road at 19th KM in Daramdin. The order has been issued under Section 159(2) of the Sikkim Police Act, 2008, citing safety concerns due to the ongoing monsoon-induced damage to the road. Restoration work is currently being carried out by the Roads & Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim.
The damage, caused by continuous rainfall, has made the affected area unsafe for heavy vehicle movement. The SP’s office stated that allowing the movement of large vehicles in this condition could increase the risk of accidents and further worsen the road situation. As a preventive measure, the police have not only restricted movement but also provided alternative routes to avoid traffic disruption.
The alternative routes for heavy vehicles are:
1. Tharpu – Timberbong – Soreng Sombaria Road, and
2. Tharpu – Timberbong – Karthok – Lower Rumbuk – Soreng Sombaria Road.
