Heavy rains in Mangan declared a 'Disaster' by Sikkim government
According to the notification, the rains that began on May 28 have caused severe destruction in Mangan district.

The Government of Sikkim has officially declared the ongoing damage in Mangan district due to continuous heavy rains as a “Disaster”. This declaration was made on June 2 by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) under the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department.
According to the notification, the rains that began on May 28 have caused severe destruction in Mangan district. In many areas, the heavy downpour has led to landslides, road blockages, damage to houses, and destruction of public property. The decision to label the situation a disaster was taken with the approval of the Chairman of the SSDMA and based on the recommendation of the State Executive Committee.
The declaration was made under Section 22(2)(b) of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, which gives state authorities the legal power to act swiftly during emergencies.
Emergency helplines (1070/155256) have been activated to provide support and coordination for those affected.
