A high-level joint inspection of the National Highway 510 construction sites was carried out today in Gyalshing District, led by District Collector Tenzing D. Denzongpa. The inspection team visited multiple locations to assess construction progress and verify public grievances related to land damages, compensation delays, and deviations from planned road alignments.

Accompanying the DC were SDM Gyalshing Sandesh Subba, SDM Dentam N.K. Karki, BDO Martam Kailash Gurung, GM (NHIDCL) Sadanand Pandey, engineers from the Roads and Bridges Department, officials from the Land Revenue and Disaster Management (LR&DM) Gyalshing, and other department heads.

The inspection focused primarily on road-widening activities under NH-510 and the subsequent damage reportedly caused by landslides in areas like Legship Bazar, Kalage Khola, Burfung Chandubong, and Rungdu. The team conducted spot verifications to evaluate the extent of structural damages to homes and lands, and to hear firsthand the concerns of affected residents.

Locals raised several pressing issues, including Long-standing delays in receiving land compensation, discrepancies between actual road construction and the initially surveyed routes and landslides leading to structural damage of private properties.

Addressing these concerns, DC Denzongpa assured the public that the administration is committed to a fair and transparent compensation process. “We will ensure that compensation is provided strictly as per government norms. A complete reassessment of damaged and excavated land will be conducted to validate claims,” he said.

He further instructed contractors to undertake precise land measurements before continuing construction and directed the building of a protective retaining wall in areas where homes have been damaged or are at risk. The DC also urged residents to cooperate with ongoing development works and appealed for voluntary contribution of small land portions in critical zones to facilitate smoother construction.
