Sikkim’s pride, Grand Master Trilok Subba, has once again brought glory to the state by winning the gold medal in the Senior National Taekwondo Championship held in Cuttack, Odisha, on August 31, 2025. Competing in the under-60 category, the 8th Dan Black Belt champion stood out with his skill, discipline, and determination, securing victory on the very first day of the prestigious tournament.

Grand Master Subba defeated tough opponents from across the country, including players from Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. His performance not only showcased his mastery in the sport but also reinforced his reputation as one of the most consistent taekwondo athletes in India.

What makes this victory even more remarkable is the fact that this is his 23rd National Gold Medal in the Taekwondo Poomsae event, a record he has been building since 2009. For the past 16 years, he has remained unbeatable in his category, setting an example of hard work, perseverance, and dedication for aspiring athletes in Sikkim and beyond.

Speaking after his win, Grand Master Subba expressed deep gratitude and humility. “This is very difficult to hold the national title for sixteen years in a country like India. For this difficult task, I am very grateful to Almighty Lord Sri Rajji / Sri Prannathji for his grace to empower me with good health and extraordinary willpower,” he said. His words reflected the spiritual strength and discipline that guide him both inside and outside the competition arena.

He also extended heartfelt thanks to Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for his constant support and encouragement. Subba acknowledged the Chief Minister’s personal visit and sponsorship, which boosted the morale of athletes representing the state. “I am very much grateful to Honorable Chief Minister of Sikkim Sri Prem Singh Tamang for his entire sponsorship and personal visit to support the athletes in this championship,” he added.

In addition, Grand Master Subba recognized the efforts of the Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association (SATA). He thanked General Secretary Sri Suman Tamang, President Sri Umesh Tamang, team coach Sri Dipen Rai, and the entire SATA family for their commitment and hard work in nurturing taekwondo talent in the state. Their guidance and teamwork, he said, played a vital role in achieving this historic victory.
