Governor to attend World Environment Day event in Gangtok on June 5

The Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, will attend the World Environment Day celebration to be held at the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology in Deorali on June 5. The invitation was formally extended to him by Sikkim’s Forest and Environment Minister, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha, during a meeting at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar, who serves as Secretary-cum-Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), also joined the meeting. The officials discussed the main themes and objectives of the upcoming event, which will highlight the importance of protecting the environment and promoting sustainable practices in day-to-day life.
The World Environment Day programme will include awareness campaigns, expert talks, and community outreach activities aimed at educating the public about conservation. The focus will be on how individuals and institutions can contribute to maintaining ecological balance in the state and beyond.
The Governor, who has always shown keen interest in environmental issues, accepted the invitation with appreciation and conveyed his best wishes for the smooth and successful conduct of the programme.
