Governor of Sikkim meets Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar at Raj Bhavan for key discussions

Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, hosted the Union Minister for Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, at Raj Bhavan today. Khattar is currently on an official visit to Sikkim, which is set to continue until April 27, 2025. The meeting saw discussions centered on crucial developmental issues concerning the state’s energy sector and urban development initiatives.
The two leaders focused on the significant damage caused to hydropower projects during the devastating floods of 2023. These floods, which ravaged the state, caused extensive damage to the hydropower infrastructure, severely disrupting the energy supply and affecting the region’s economic growth. Governor Mathur emphasized the role of Sikkim’s hydropower capacity as a cornerstone for the state’s self-reliance and economic development.
In response, Union Minister Khattar reassured the Governor of the Central Government’s firm commitment to restoring the damaged hydropower infrastructure, underlining that efforts are already underway to address these setbacks and revive the state's energy capabilities.
Further, the meeting extended into discussions regarding urban development projects in Sikkim. Both parties reiterated their commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of these projects in collaboration with the Central and State Governments. The Union Minister expressed full support for the advancement of Sikkim’s urban infrastructure, acknowledging the unique challenges posed by its mountainous terrain.
The session was attended by the Governor’s Secretary, Jitendra Singh Raje, who also took part in the discussions. The ongoing visit will include inspections of key projects to further enhance cooperation between the state and the central government in the areas of energy and urban development.
