The people of Sikkim joined hands on July 31 to celebrate Utkarsh Utsav, marking the successful completion of one year in office by the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur. The event was attended by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, government officials, and citizens from all parts of the state.
The celebration was filled with pride and emotion, as the Governor’s contribution to the state over the past year was remembered and appreciated. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said, “It was a moment of great pride and joy to attend the Utkarsh Utsav to mark the completion of one year of Hon’ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur Ji’s distinguished service in office.”
Chief Minister Tamang, on behalf of the Government of Sikkim and all its citizens, extended his heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Governor. He called the Governor’s leadership an inspiration, praising his visionary approach, experience, and strong commitment to the Constitution. According to the Chief Minister, the Governor’s leadership has helped strengthen the democratic institutions in the state and brought administration closer to the people.
In his message, CM Tamang also praised the Governor’s humble and compassionate nature, which he said had deeply influenced not just the state’s governance but also its social and cultural life. He gave special mention to the “Gaon Mein Governor” initiative, which connected the Raj Bhawan with villages across Sikkim and helped the Governor directly understand the concerns and hopes of ordinary people.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the Governor’s strong stand on women’s empowerment, especially through his message of “Empowered Women, Empowered Nation.” He said that many in the state had been inspired by the Governor’s support for women’s leadership and equal rights.
He also highlighted the Governor’s special concern for children and youth. According to the Chief Minister, the Governor always speaks about the importance of discipline, education, and moral courage, and his words have touched the hearts of students and teachers across the state. “The Governor treats children as the future of our nation, and he has always encouraged them to work hard and stay true to values,” said the Chief Minister.
Apart from social causes, the Governor has also stressed the importance of national pride, respect for the armed forces, and environmental protection. His promotion of organic farming and sustainable living practices has found deep support in Sikkim, a state already known for its green policies.
Reflecting on the one-year journey, the Chief Minister said that the Governor’s constant guidance had boosted the energy and confidence of the government. He added, “The presence of the Hon’ble Governor has instilled hope in villages, confidence among the youth, and inspiration across communities.”
In a separate message earlier, Governor Om Prakash Mathur also shared his experiences from the past year. He said he felt deep gratitude for being able to serve the people of Sikkim. He remembered his visits to various parts of the state—from remote mountain villages to large cultural events like the Maghey Mela and Pang Lhabsol. He mentioned the effort to bring electricity to Dichu village and his visits to border areas under the Vibrant Villages Programme as special moments during his tenure.
The Governor also praised the discipline of the people of Sikkim, their commitment to cleanliness, and their environment-friendly lifestyle. He called the people of Sikkim some of the most forward-thinking citizens in the country and expressed confidence that they would play a key role in building a Developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047.
The Utkarsh Utsav was not just a celebration of the Governor’s one-year in office but also a tribute to the shared journey of progress that the state has witnessed over the past year. With continued cooperation between the Raj Bhawan and the state government, the people of Sikkim look forward to more such milestones in the future.
