Amid concerns over rising water levels in the Singtam area, the Governor of Sikkim, Om Prakash Mathur, conducted a brief inspection of the Indreni Bridge on Tuesday. The visit comes as a precautionary measure following continuous rainfall and a noticeable rise in the water flow around the region.
The Governor was accompanied by Commissioner-cum-Secretary to the Governor, Jitendra Singh Raje, and other officials from Raj Bhavan. During the inspection, he interacted with members of the Singtam Nagar Panchayat, departmental officials, and local residents to get a firsthand account of the situation on the ground.
The Governor took stock of the conditions surrounding the bridge and nearby areas, where river levels have shown a steady increase. While the situation has not yet reached an alarming stage, the visit underscored the administration’s concern for public safety and its proactive stance in disaster preparedness.
Speaking to officials and residents, Mathur urged the local population to stay alert and follow any advisories issued by the authorities. He also directed the concerned departments to remain fully prepared and take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of the people living in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
“Preparedness is key in such situations,” the Governor said adding that “timely intervention and community awareness can prevent loss of life and property.” He appreciated the efforts of local officials and urged them to maintain strong coordination between departments, especially during the monsoon period.
