Gangtok shopkeeper injured in late-night knife attack, suspect booked under BNS
According to police sources, the victim was returning home around 10:45 p.m. after closing his shop at Gandhay Jhora when a 24-year-old man from the same locality allegedly approached and stabbed him in the right thigh without provocation.

A 39-year-old shopkeeper from Sichey, near Palzor Stadium in Gangtok, was reportedly attacked with a knife in a late-night assault on July 3. The incident has left the local community shaken and has led to the registration of an FIR at Sadar Police Station under Section 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
According to police sources, the victim was returning home around 10:45 p.m. after closing his shop at Gandhay Jhora when a 24-year-old man from the same locality allegedly approached and stabbed him in the right thigh without provocation. Despite the injury, the shopkeeper managed to fend off the attacker and escape.
The victim lodged a written complaint with Sadar PS on July 4 around 2:24 p.m., which compelled the police to launch an investigation.
