Several parts of Gangtok have been without electricity for over 12 hours after strong winds and heavy rainfall hit the region on April 23. The sudden and intense weather caused widespread damage, especially to the town’s power infrastructure. Many trees were uprooted during the storm and fell on electric poles and power lines leading to major power cuts across the town.

Residents in areas like Deorali, Tadong, and Upper Sichey have reported that power went out late Wednesday evening and had not been restored even by Thursday morning. The situation has caused a lot of problems for households and businesses, with people struggling without lights, internet and other basic services that depend on electricity.

The Power Department are working round the clock to restore electricity.
