Fresh Landslide cut off the major link of north-eastern state capital Gangtok and Kalimpong from Siliguri

The incessant rains triggered fresh landslides along National Highway 10 cutting off the major link of north-eastern state capital Gangtok and Kalimpong from Siliguri on Sunday morning. However, no casualties have been reported. NH authorities said that the restoration work is under process while small vehicles have been diverted and restrictions have been imposed on heavy vehicles, said the administrative officials.

A stretch of 20 meters road has caved in along the National Highway 10 at Sethi jhora .

National highways authorities said the clearing process is underway. However, no vehicles will be allowed to play along the route and routes have been diverted to expidite the restoration work. The landslide occurred around 6.7 kilometres away from the Coronation Bridge, also known as the Sevoke Bridge, connecting the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.

Kalimpong district magistrate, Bala Subramanian T said, "Due to a fresh landslide along NH10 at Sethi Jhora a portion of the road has caved in. The stretch of the road is being completely closed for urgent repairs. The restoration work has started and we are trying to resuke traffic along the stretch from tomorrow. Moreover to avoid any untoward incident and ensuring safety for the travelers we have diverted the routes for the small vehicles, while , restrictions have been imposed for heavy vehicles"

According to the administrative officials, Small vehicles coming from Sikkim side going to Siliguri/Dooars may avail either of the routes as per convenience-Diversion from Teesta to siliguri via kurseong , Diversion via Sangsey to lava-Gorubathan - coronation bridge and vice versa. For the heavy vehicles from Sikkim to Siliguri they can use the route : Chitrey fatak - kalimpong town- lava Gorubathan road - coronation bridge - siliguri and vice versa . For heavy vehicles such movement will be allowed only between 7 pm to 6 am.
