In a step toward fulfilling the vision of a “Sunaulo, Samvridha and Saamarth Sikkim” — a golden, prosperous, and empowered Sikkim — a free health insurance scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) is being actively implemented across the Khamdong-Singtam constituency. The ambitious campaign, initiated under the leadership of Shri N.B. Dahal, Minister for Roads and Bridges and Area MLA of the constituency, offers health coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per eligible family.

The fifth phase of this community outreach program was successfully conducted today at the Singtam party office. The initiative, designed to extend critical health benefits to all sections of the population, is being carried out in multiple phases to ensure maximum reach and awareness among the residents of the constituency.

Shri N.B. Dahal’s leadership in pushing this scheme forward is being seen as a reflection of Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay)’s broader state-wide mission to empower citizens through inclusive welfare programs. With health being a cornerstone of social equity, the insurance scheme is expected to significantly reduce the financial burden of medical expenses for families across Sikkim.

Party workers and grassroots leaders have been instrumental in facilitating the process. Among the most active supporters is Shri Serap Dorje Bhutia, President of the Constituency Level Committee (CLC), who has been directly engaging with the public to ensure no family is left out of the enrollment process.

“The enthusiasm and active participation we are witnessing in every phase is heartening,” said a party worker during the event. “This is not just a welfare campaign; it’s a movement to ensure health security for every household.”

So far, the campaign has received a positive response from residents, especially from economically vulnerable groups who previously struggled with healthcare costs. The rollout has also focused on increasing awareness about the benefits of PMJAY and the registration process through door-to-door drives and help desks.

Under PMJAY, beneficiaries are entitled to cashless treatment at empanelled public and private hospitals across India. This central government initiative, when effectively dovetailed with state-level outreach efforts, holds the potential to transform healthcare accessibility in rural and semi-urban Sikkim.
