Sikkim witnessed four suicide cases on February 14, sparking heightened concerns over rising mental health challenges in the state. The incidents, which occurred in different locations, involved individuals of varying age groups, including a 13-year-old boy and a 71-year-old man.
According to police reports, three of the individuals died by hanging, while one person jumped from a bridge into a river. In Namchi district’s Upper Mamring, a 38-year-old man was found dead by hanging. Similarly, in Geyzing, West Sikkim, a 13-year-old boy was discovered hanging from a tree.
In Soreong district, a 71-year-old man reportedly jumped off the Rothak bridge under Nayabazar police station’s jurisdiction. Additionally, a 21-year-old housewife from Chungthang, Pegong, in North Sikkim, was also found dead by hanging.
