Sikkim on March 22 conducted its first-ever bungee jumping trial, marking a new milestone in the state's adventure tourism sector. The trial took place in an open valley, providing a breathtaking backdrop for the extreme sport. Sujan Maharajan, a renowned bungee master from Nepal with 17 years of experience, became the first person to participate in the jump.

Speaking about his experience, Maharajan expressed excitement and appreciation for the natural setting of Sikkim’s bungee jumping site.

"Namaste, I am Sujan Maharajan. I have been working as a bungee master for 17 years and have jumped in many places. When Mr. Kaji and Mr. Manohar brought me here, I was thrilled. The valley is so open, and the surroundings are incredible. You can have a tower-based jump in a city, but here, in the middle of nature, it is an entirely different experience. I had a lot of fun during the jump, and the rebounds were amazing. I have done jumps in many places, but this one stands out. It is unique and thrilling."

Another expert, Bhola Suresh, who has completed over 1,000 jumps across multiple locations, also took part in the trial. He shared his enthusiasm for the natural beauty of the location.

"Namaste, my name is Bhola Suresh. I have been working with Sujan for 17 years, and we have performed jumps in 10 to 15 different places. But this place is special. The gorge, the river, and the natural surroundings make it one of the best locations for bungee jumping in India. It felt like we were in our home country. We didn’t know what to expect when we arrived, but after today’s jump, I can confidently say that this is an outstanding location for adventure sports."

The introduction of bungee jumping is expected to boost adventure tourism in Sikkim, attracting thrill-seekers from across the country and beyond. With its breathtaking landscapes and ideal terrain, the state is poised to become a major destination for extreme sports.

In addition to its push for adventure tourism, Sikkim is set to host the Sikkim Rural Tourism Meet (SRTM) 2025 in Uttarey, West Sikkim. The event aims to highlight the state’s vibrant rural life, culture, and heritage while fostering economic and social benefits for local communities.

The SRTM 2025 will focus on knowledge sharing, capacity building, networking, and policy advocacy to promote sustainable rural tourism. Experts and stakeholders from the tourism industry, local communities, and government agencies will participate in discussions to exchange successful models and explore solutions to challenges faced by rural tourism initiatives.
