Farmers welfare drive concludes in Kabi-Lungchok with focus on growth and collaboration
During the programme, both the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour appreciated the hard work of the farmers and praised the role of the departments and support agencies.

The closing ceremony of the Farmers Welfare Initiative under the Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) was held with much enthusiasm and participation on 12th June 2025 at the Navey-Shotak Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU), under the 29th Kabi-Lungchok Constituency.
The event marked the successful conclusion of a campaign aimed at supporting and empowering farmers in the region. Hon’ble Minister Shri Puran Gurung graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Hon’ble Area MLA and Advisor Shri Thenlay Tshering Bhutia attended as the Guest of Honour.
Also present at the ceremony was Shri Om Adhikari, Assistant Director at Kabi Block Administrative Centre (BAC), along with senior officials from various government departments, Panchayat members, local Self Help Groups (SHGs), and many farmers from the surrounding villages.
The initiative was a joint effort of several departments including Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, and Fisheries, Government of Sikkim. They were supported by scientific and academic institutions such as ICAR-Sikkim Centre, NRC-Orchid, and CAU-CAEPHT. These collaborations helped to bring technical knowledge and modern farming practices to the grassroots level.
During the programme, both the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour appreciated the hard work of the farmers and praised the role of the departments and support agencies. Shri Puran Gurung spoke about the importance of uplifting the farming community and assured continued government support. He said, “The backbone of our society is our farmers. With the right tools, training, and encouragement, they can bring real growth to our state.”
Thenlay Tshering Bhutia also emphasized the role of local governance and the value of unity among departments, scientists, and farmers. He highlighted how collaboration at every level can help in achieving the goals of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan — which aims to modernize agriculture and ensure the welfare of farmers.
