Medhavi Skills University held its first convocation ceremony at Chintan Bhavan, Gangtok, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s journey towards academic excellence. The event was graced by the Minister of Education, Sports & Youth Affairs, Raju Basnet, as the Chief Guest, along with Emeritus Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of Sikkim, Prof. Mahendra P Lama, as the Guest of Honour.
The convocation was formally declared open by Chancellor Pravesh Dudani, followed by a welcome address and convocation report by Vice Chancellor Dr. Amiya Singh, highlighting the university’s achievements and progress. The event saw outstanding students being awarded medals for their academic excellence, recognizing their dedication and hard work.
Chancellor and Founder of Medhavi Skills University, along with Pro-Chancellor and Co-Founder Kuldip Sharma, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the university’s vision and commitment to skill-based education.
In his keynote address, Chief Guest Raju Basnet encouraged the graduating students to contribute to society with dedication and integrity. Reflecting on the changing educational landscape in Sikkim, he remarked, "Under his visionary leadership, every child of Sikkim now has the opportunity to access quality education." He emphasized the government’s efforts in prioritizing higher education, making it more accessible for students within the state.
Stressing the importance of industry linkages, Basnet underscored the necessity of acquiring practical skills for career growth. "MS University has taken significant strides in this regard," he stated, noting that securing placements from the university was a crucial achievement for students.
He also spoke about the need for specialization in today’s competitive world, citing that skilled professionals like plumbers can earn over ₹40,000 per month. "This exemplifies the power of possessing a skill," he explained. Encouraging graduates to embrace both success and failure, he remarked, "Failure should never be viewed as the opposite of success; rather, it is a stepping stone towards it. Each fall brings you closer to triumph."
Guest of Honour Prof. Mahendra P Lama also addressed the students, sharing words of encouragement and emphasizing the role of soft power in today’s world. "Soft power fosters peace and joy through culture, music, literature, food, and skills," he said, citing global influences such as BTS. He expressed confidence in the graduating students, particularly those with medical skills, highlighting their potential to make a profound impact worldwide.
A total of 112 students received their degrees across various disciplines, including Emergency Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiology and Imaging Technology, and Bachelor of Building Administration in Retail Operations. Three gold medals were awarded to students who demonstrated exceptional academic performance.
