Eloma Subba wins bronze for Sikkim at Khelo India Beach Games 2025

Bringing pride to Sikkim, martial artist Eloma Subba has won a bronze medal in the first-ever edition of the Khelo India Beach Games 2025 being held at Daman & Diu. She secured the medal in the Solo Creative event of Pencak Silat, a traditional martial art form from Southeast Asia. The medal ceremony took place late Wednesday night, marking a proud moment for the state.
Eloma Subba is one of two athletes from Sikkim who qualified to participate in this prestigious national-level event. Along with her, Yamuna Chettri also earned a place in the tournament, based on their strong performances at the 13th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship 2025 held from May 9 to May 12 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

While Eloma has already made her mark by winning the bronze, her teammate Yamuna Chettri is still in the running for a medal. She is set to face her next opponent today. The two athletes are representing Sikkim under the guidance of Bhim Bahadur Subba, the General Secretary of the Sikkim Pencak Silat Association, who is serving as the team coach during the games.
Speaking to the media, team coach Bhim Bahadur Subba expressed happiness over Eloma’s performance. He said, “It’s a big achievement for our state. Competing in a national-level event like the Khelo India Beach Games and winning a medal is not easy. Eloma has worked hard, and this medal is the result of her dedication and discipline.”
He also spoke about Yamuna’s upcoming match, saying, “Yamuna is focused and prepared. We are hopeful she will also bring home a medal. Both athletes have trained rigorously and have shown great spirit.”
The Khelo India Beach Games are part of the government’s initiative to promote sports in different formats and to encourage young athletes across the country. This new edition has provided a platform for lesser-known sports like Pencak Silat to gain more recognition.
