The Election Commission of India (ECI) today continued its ongoing discussions with political parties by meeting leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The meeting took place at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi, where Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi, interacted with CPI(M) representatives. The CPI(M) delegation was led by the party’s General Secretary, M. A. Baby.

This meeting is part of a series of interactions that the Election Commission has planned with Presidents and senior leaders of various National and State-level political parties. The goal of these meetings is to listen to the concerns and suggestions of political parties and to have open and constructive discussions on the electoral process.

The Election Commission has said that these talks help in improving coordination and understanding between the Commission and the political parties. It gives a platform for the parties to share their views directly with the top officials of the ECI. The Commission believes that such dialogue is important for making the election process stronger, fairer, and more transparent.

This initiative is part of the Commission’s broader vision to ensure that all stakeholders — especially political parties — are involved in making elections smooth and efficient. The Commission is working within the legal framework to make elections more inclusive and participative.

Earlier this month, the Commission also met with leaders of other major parties. On May 6, 2025, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) delegation led by Party President Km. Mayawati met with the ECI. On May 8, 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation led by Party President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda also held a meeting with the Commission.

Apart from these recent high-level meetings, the Election Commission has already carried out thousands of all-party meetings at different levels. According to official data, a total of 4,719 such meetings have been conducted so far. These include 40 meetings by Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs), 800 meetings by District Electoral Officers (DEOs), and 3,879 meetings by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). Through these meetings, more than 28,000 representatives from different political parties have been engaged across the country.
