Eighth convocation of Sikkim Professional University held in Gangtok

The eighth convocation of Sikkim Professional University (SPU) was held on December 17, 2024, at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok, with the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, as the chief guest. The ceremony celebrated the achievements of the graduating students, who were awarded their degrees in various fields of study.

In his convocation address, Shri Mathur congratulated the students for their hard work and dedication. He encouraged them to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to the development of both the country and society. Emphasizing the importance of education rooted in culture, the Governor highlighted the role of teachers in shaping the future of students. He also referred to the concept of "Vasudev Kutumbakam" (the world is one family) and urged the youth to resolve societal issues by applying their education and experience. He further spoke about the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and inspired the graduates to engage with good literature and pursue self-study to enhance their knowledge.

Shri Hemant Goyal, Chairman of Sikkim Professional University, expressed his gratitude to the Hon'ble Governor and acknowledged the support of Sikkim Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang and his government. He praised the development of the Gangtok and Budang campuses and highlighted the university’s contribution to educating the youth of East, South, and West Sikkim, fostering the spirit of education in the region.

The Vice Chancellor of SPU, Prof. H.S. Yadav, provided an overview of the university’s activities, mentioning the various academic programs offered, including B.Sc. Nursing, GNM, B. Pharm, D. Pharm, BPT, LLB, and more. He emphasized that the university’s Nursing and Pharmacy programs are accredited by the Indian Nursing Council, Sikkim Nursing Council, and the Pharmacy Council of India.

The ceremony began and concluded with an academic procession, with the Registrar of SPU, Prof. Ramesh Kumar Rawat, introducing the chief guest and thanking all attendees. Distinguished figures, including Dr. Kuldeep Aggarwal, Chairman of the Board of Open Schooling Skill Education, Mukesh Goyal, Management Member of SPU, Bhim Thatal, Secretary of Education, Government of Sikkim, and other prominent figures, were present at the event.
