The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched a two-day training programme for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry to strengthen grassroots electoral participation by National and State political parties.
A total of 229 BLAs (BLA-I & BLA-II) from 11 political parties are participating in the training held at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in New Delhi. The sessions are being conducted bilingually in English and Tamil.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar inaugurated the programme and highlighted the key role of BLAs in the election process. He emphasized that the training would empower BLAs to effectively carry out responsibilities under the Representation of People Act, 1950 and 1951, and related rules and guidelines issued by the Commission.
This is the second batch of BLA training at IIIDEM, following a similar session held for BLAs from Bihar in April 2025.
Participants received guidance on their legal roles, appointment procedures, and rights under Sections 24(a) and 24(b) of the RP Act, 1950 concerning electoral roll appeals.
The ECI has also initiated extensive interactions with political parties, conducting over 4,700 meetings involving more than 28,000 party representatives across the country.
