Dr. Indra Hang Subba appointed Chairman of FCI Consultative Committee for Sikkim

Dr. Indra Hang Subba, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Sikkim has been nominated as the Chairman of the Consultative Committee of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) for Sikkim. The nomination was made by the Hon’ble Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India.
This appointment is seen as a recognition of Dr. Subba’s continued work in highlighting issues related to food security, public distribution, and fair access to essential commodities, especially in Sikkim and the larger Northeast region. As Chairman, Dr. Subba will serve as a key link between the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, and the FCI, offering oversight and policy suggestions for better functioning of food-related services in the state.
In his statement following the nomination, Dr. Subba expressed heartfelt thanks to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution for the trust placed in him. He also extended his gratitude to Sikkim’s Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang for his support.

He also stressed the importance of addressing the unique challenges faced by a Himalayan state like Sikkim. These include difficult terrain, remote villages, and the need for reliable food storage and distribution systems. Dr. Subba underlined his commitment to finding practical solutions for these challenges through regular engagement with officials and the public.
As Chairman of the Consultative Committee, Dr. Subba is expected to play a central role in reviewing FCI’s operations in Sikkim, suggesting improvements in public distribution, and ensuring better food access in rural and far-flung areas. His role will also include providing recommendations on improving storage infrastructure and supply chain management to prevent food shortages or wastage.
