A large number of citizens gathered in Siliguri on Thursday to take part in the "Tiranga Yatra", an event held to show respect and gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces and to remember the victims of the recent Pahalgam terror attack. The Yatra was led by Darjeeling MP and BJP National Spokesperson Raju Bista, along with West Bengal Legislative Assembly Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari.
The Yatra was organised as part of a nationwide campaign that celebrates the success of "Operation Sindoor", a major counter-terror operation carried out by the Indian Armed Forces in response to the Pahalgam attack in Jammu & Kashmir. The brutal attack had claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians and shocked the entire country.
Speaking at the event, MP Raju Bista said the Tiranga Yatra is more than just a symbolic march. “This is a people’s movement. It reflects the love, pride, and gratitude every Indian feels for our brave soldiers. It is also a strong message to the enemies of peace — that India will always stand united and fight back,” he said.
Bista praised the Indian Army and hailed the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the success of Operation Sindoor. He said the operation not only destroyed terrorist camps across the border but also neutralised over 100 terrorists and dismantled key hideouts used for planning attacks on India.
Bista said , " The people of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Siliguri, Terai and Doors have always stood firmly with the nation in moments of crisis and triumph. This Yatra reaffirms our region’s patriotic spirit and pays tribute to the martyrs of Pahalgam, while also saluting the strategic precision and success of our armed forces in executing a mission of national significance."
“Under the bold leadership of PM Modi ji and the bravery of our Armed Forces, the response was swift, strong, and effective. This operation has sent a clear signal to those who wish to harm our country,” Bista added.
Suvendu Adhikari also spoke at the event and called on people across West Bengal and the country to support the Yatra in their own regions. “This is not a political event. This is an expression of our love for India and a salute to our jawans who protect our borders with courage every day,” he said.
The Tiranga Yatra aims to spread awareness among citizens and bring communities together in honour of the sacrifices made by India’s armed forces. It also reminds the world that India will not tolerate terrorism and will always defend its sovereignty.
“This is the time to rise above politics. Our unity is our biggest strength. Let’s carry the Tiranga together and show the world that India stands strong, proud, and unbroken,” Bista said.
