As India completes 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Darjeeling MP Raju Bista lauded the period as a remarkable era of growth, reform, and global recognition.
Bista said that India’s GDP per capita (PPP) rose from $5,000 in 2014 to over $12,000 today, with the economy doubling to $4.3 trillion, making India the world’s fourth-largest economy. The IMF projects a 6.2% growth for India in FY 2025-26 outpacing major economies like China and the US.
He credited major policy reforms such as GST and “Make in India” for economic gains, noting a surge in high-tech manufacturing and record GST collections of Rs 22.08 lakh crore. Digital leadership was evident as UPI overtook Visa in daily transactions, with projections to reach $1 trillion by FY26.
Social welfare also saw dramatic expansion under PM Modi’s “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” vision; 15 crore households received tap water, 10 crore LPG connections were distributed under Ujjwala, and 37 crore Ayushman Bharat health cards issued. Over 27 crore people were lifted from extreme poverty.
Bista said that India’s rising defence exports and the push for Aatmanirbhar Bharat affirm the nation’s determined stride toward becoming a $7 trillion economy by 2030 and a developed nation by 2047.
