Darjeeling MP Raju Bista on Wednesday extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Karma Puja 2025, describing it as a festival that reflects the close bond between nature, culture, and community life.
In his message, Bista said Karma Puja is more than just a religious ritual. It is a celebration that brings people together and strengthens the values of brotherhood and unity. “On this sacred occasion of Karma Puja, I extend my warm wishes to all of you. Celebrated by the tribal community, this festival is a symbol of nature, brotherhood, and social unity. By worshipping Lord Karam, we pray for happiness, prosperity, and peace in our lives,” he said.
The festival of Karma Puja is widely observed among tribal communities across Darjeeling, the Terai, and the Dooars region. People gather in large numbers to worship Lord Karam, believed to be the god of youth and power, and pray for good harvests, wellbeing, and prosperity. The rituals usually include planting branches of the Karam tree, songs, dances, and prayers that highlight the community’s deep respect for the environment.
Bista said that the festival should also be seen as an occasion to strengthen cultural identity and harmony in society. “Let us, on Karma Puja 2025, come together to deepen our bond with nature and honor the rich traditions of the tribal culture of Darjeeling, Terai, and Dooars,” he said, calling for collective efforts to preserve the environment and safeguard cultural heritage.
The MP also expressed hope that the blessings of Lord Karam would bring renewed energy and prosperity to all families. “May this festival bring new energy, greenery, and prosperity into all our lives. With this wish, I convey my heartfelt greetings to everyone on the occasion of Karma Puja,” he added.
