Darjeeling Member of Parliament Raju Bista has appealed for urgent central intervention in the case of 14-year-old Ishan Gurung, who went missing in broad daylight near 10 Mile Forest Village in Sevoke, Siliguri, on August 23.

In a statement issued today, Bista expressed his solidarity with Ishan’s family, saying, “Not only as a Member of Parliament, but also as a father of three young children, I stand with them in their anguish and am committed to ensuring every possible effort is made to bring Ishan home safely.”

Following the abduction, Bista had immediately requested the West Bengal government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. While the SIT was officially formed on August 28, 13 days have passed without any breakthrough, leaving the community in growing distress.

Highlighting the delay and the anxiety it has caused, Bista has formally reached out to Governor C.V. Ananda Bose and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, urging the immediate transfer of the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). “A dedicated team of experts with full resources is needed to locate Ishan and reunite him with his family,” he said.

Bista said that the safety of children is paramount and called on the state government to prioritize the case to restore public confidence. He warned against further delays saying that each passing day deepens the pain of the family and the local community.
