Marking the 90th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Sikkim's Lok Sabha MP Indra Hang Subba described the Tibetan spiritual leader’s presence in India as a “great luck” for the country and a beacon of hope in an increasingly troubled world.

Speaking on behalf of the people of Sikkim, Subba highlighted the growing global disorder, marked by wars and uncertainty across continents. “First of all, when the world is facing so much uncertainty and disorder, with wars going on across all continents, peace has become more necessary than ever. At this point of time, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s presence in India is a great blessing for all Indians,” said the young parliamentarian.

Extending his warm wishes on the occasion of the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, Subba said, “On behalf of the people of Sikkim, I wish each and every one on his birthday. I wish everyone peace, love and compassion.” He expressed hope that the teachings and practices of the Dalai Lama — rooted in non-violence, mindfulness and humanity — would one day lead to genuine peace and prosperity across the globe.

Subba said that India, and particularly the people of Sikkim, have always supported the Dalai Lama and his decisions, ever since he made India his home in 1959 after fleeing Tibet. “India and Sikkim as a whole have always stood with His Holiness. Our people support whatever decision His Holiness has taken. His presence here is not only symbolic but spiritually significant for the region,” he said.

He further reiterated his personal support for the Dalai Lama’s spiritual legacy. “As far as I am concerned, I support his declaration and the institution of the Dalai Lama. This institution must continue so that the propagation of peace, prosperity, and compassion continues in human civilization,” Subba added.
