Coordination meeting on waste management transition held at GMC Conference Hall

A coordination meeting was convened on February 17 at the GMC Conference Hall to oversee the transition of waste management operations to M/s GNS Builders Pvt. Ltd. in Martam. The meeting brought together Block Development Officers (BDOs), Panchayat members, officials from various Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs) and wards, as well as representatives from Rangpo and Singtam Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

Chaired by the Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC), the meeting also saw the participation of the Deputy Mayor, Municipal Commissioner, Joint Municipal Commissioner, Assistant Engineer from GMC, and representatives from M/s GNS Builders Pvt. Ltd. The Municipal Commissioner welcomed the attendees and outlined the objectives of the session. The Assistant Engineer provided an update on the current waste management status in alignment with the Hon'ble National Green Tribunal (NGT) directives and government decisions.

Key highlights of the meeting included:

User Fee and Tipping Fee Structure: A comprehensive discussion on the implementation of a user fee and tipping fee system was held. All Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) agreed to contribute in accordance with the established provisions.

Introduction of New Machinery: The introduction of advanced machinery was discussed to improve the efficiency of waste management operations across the region.

Source Segregation: Emphasis was placed on the strict enforcement of source segregation at both the household and institutional levels to ensure proper waste management.

Digital Waste Collection System: The launch of a new mobile application, "Safa Sikkim," was announced, designed to digitize and streamline the waste collection system, improving service delivery for residents.
