Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on July 4 reviewed the ongoing development work at the historic Mangerjung Project site in Mangshari, West Sikkim, reaffirming the government's commitment to preserving the cultural and historical identity of the Mangar community.

During his visit to the site, CM Tamang interacted with officials, contractors, and stakeholders involved in the project, expressing appreciation for the dedication and teamwork demonstrated so far. “It was truly encouraging to witness the commitment, coordination, and hard work demonstrated by the team on the ground,” the Chief Minister said. He was briefed on the project's current status and the progress made since its inception.

The Chief Minister also held detailed discussions with contractors and stakeholders, gaining insight into the challenges faced during implementation. He issued clear directions to ensure timely and efficient completion of the remaining work, emphasizing that the larger vision behind the project must remain the guiding force. “The road ahead must be approached with the same zeal, with the aim of ensuring this cultural landmark is completed as envisioned,” he added.

The Mangerjung Development Project was launched with the laying of its foundation stone on February 1, 2021. Once completed, the site will serve as a cultural hub dedicated to showcasing the rich traditions, history, and stories of valor of the Mangar community. The project holds immense significance as it seeks to revive the historical essence of Mangsari Mangarjung, believed to be associated with Raja Sintupati Sen Mangar—a prominent Mangar ruler from the 1600s.

The site is also home to one of the many Mangardzongs or Mangar forts, once powerful symbols of the community's resilience and prominence in the region.
