Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on April 14 inaugurated the newly constructed All Sikkim Scheduled Caste Welfare Association Bhawan at Development Area, Gangtok. The seven-storey building, which now stands as a symbol of unity and empowerment, was dedicated to the Scheduled Caste community with a clear message of support, inclusion, and opportunity from the state government.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Tamang expressed his happiness over the completion of the Bhawan, calling it more than just a building. “This is a home for the community. While the infrastructure stands tall, it now needs to be filled with life, energy, and purpose,” he said. He urged members of the Scheduled Caste community to actively engage with the new space, use it as a platform for growth, and come together to preserve their cultural identity and heritage.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister announced two key initiatives aimed at supporting the Scheduled Caste community in a meaningful way. First, an annual grant-in-aid of ₹10 lakh will be provided to the All Sikkim Scheduled Caste Welfare Association under the Chief Minister’s Discretionary Grant (CMDG), starting this year. Second, five additional seats will be reserved exclusively for Scheduled Caste students from underprivileged backgrounds under the Chief Minister’s Meritorious Scholarship Scheme (CMMS).
Tamang highlighted that these initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift every community in the state. “The state government stands firmly with every community and is committed to preserving and promoting the diverse cultures and traditions of our people,” he said.
He further emphasized that every association must work closely with its members, guided by mutual respect, cooperation, and shared goals. “The Scheduled Caste community should never feel alone or unheard. You are strong, capable, and full of potential,” the Chief Minister said, reassuring the community that the government is with them at every step.
In his address, Tamang stressed the importance of inclusion and equal opportunity. He said that his government believes in creating an equitable society where no section is left behind. The inauguration of the Bhawan and the newly announced measures are part of the broader vision of building a more inclusive and empowered Sikkim.
The event was attended by members of the Scheduled Caste community, senior government officials, and representatives of various social organisations.
