Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Sunday inaugurated the state-of-the-art Automatic Pop-up Rain Gun Irrigation System at the Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA) Ground in Mining, Rangpo. The event was attended by Hon’ble Chief Justice of the High Court of Sikkim, Justice Biswanath Sommader, who graced the occasion as a distinguished guest.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief Minister Tamang expressed his delight over the introduction of the new irrigation facility, describing it as a forward-looking step for sports infrastructure in Sikkim. “I am delighted to inaugurate the Automatic Pop-up Rain Gun Irrigation System in the esteemed presence of Hon’ble Chief Justice Justice Biswanath Sommader. This modern facility will ensure proper maintenance of the SCA Ground and further strengthen cricket in our state,” he said.

The Automatic Pop-up Rain Gun Irrigation System is designed to provide uniform water distribution across the playing field, thereby improving ground conditions and supporting professional-level matches. Officials from the Sikkim Cricket Association noted that the system would also save water, reduce manual labour, and maintain the ground in line with national standards.

The inauguration was followed by a friendly exhibition cricket match, which saw the participation of local players and dignitaries. Chief Minister Tamang, who also joined the exhibition match, remarked that such sporting events foster camaraderie and enthusiasm among players while promoting cricket as an emerging sport in Sikkim.

Justice Sommader, while appreciating the initiative, lauded the efforts of the state government and the SCA in building world-class sports infrastructure. He emphasized that facilities of this nature not only help nurture young talent but also inspire the youth of Sikkim to pursue sports with greater dedication.
