Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has dedicated the 2025-26 General Budget to the people of the state, reaffirming his government's commitment to development, poverty alleviation, and welfare programs. The budget, recently passed by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, aims to benefit citizens through various schemes targeting rural progress, education, and healthcare.
During his vote of thanks on the final day of the four-day Budget Session, CM Tamang emphasized that every rupee allocated would be used to uplift the people of Sikkim. He highlighted that the state's poverty rate stands at a remarkably low 2.6%, and the government is committed to eradicating poverty while ensuring development reaches even the most remote areas.
Education remains a key focus, with the state achieving a 90% literacy rate. The government continues to support students from underprivileged backgrounds through schemes like the Chief Minister Education Assistance Scheme and the Nar Bahadur Bhandari Fellowship, which funds students studying in prestigious institutions both in India and abroad. Additionally, financial aid has been extended to students pursuing technical education and commercial pilot courses, benefitting eight students so far.
On the healthcare front, CM Tamang highlighted the Chief Minister Medical Assistance Scheme, which has helped 11,178 individuals since its launch in 2019. The scheme ensures transparency by disbursing funds exclusively via cheques. The government has also established dialysis services in all hospitals and is working to set up kidney transplant facilities. Moreover, 2,724 clubs and organizations have received support under various social welfare initiatives.
As Sikkim prepares to celebrate 50 years of statehood in May, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Central Government for its continuous support. He urged the people of Sikkim to come together as "Team Sikkim" to commemorate this historic milestone in a grand manner.
