Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on Friday said that the state’s steady progress in development has been made possible due to collective efforts and inspired leadership. He was speaking at the Sampoornata Abhiyaan Samman Samaroha held at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok, organised to recognise the achievements of Aspirational Districts under the NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Districts Programme.

“It was an honour to be part of this important ceremony,” said the Chief Minister, adding that the programme launched under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the way local governance and public services work across India.

Highlighting Sikkim’s success, he proudly announced that Soreng District has emerged as the No. 1 Aspirational District in India in May 2023. Soreng also topped the Basic Infrastructure sector ranking in September 2024. CM Tamang said these are not just rankings, but proof of hard work, team spirit, and sincere governance.

The Chief Minister extended his congratulations to Soreng District and praised the dedication of officers, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, teachers, NGOs, volunteers, and citizens for making this achievement possible. “This success belongs to every person who contributed selflessly at every level,” he said.

He also commended the District Collectors of all districts and encouraged them to take inspiration from Soreng’s example. “Let every district try to follow the same path of excellence,” he urged.

During the event, CM Tamang also shared his vision for a new policy think tank — the Institute for Transforming Sikkim (ITS). He explained that the ITS will work to drive development through data, innovation, grassroots-level planning, and accountability. It will align Sikkim’s development goals with the national mission of Viksit Bharat @2047, ensuring that the state’s progress is inclusive and reaches every corner.

“I believe that by working together, we can build a Sunaulo (Golden), Samriddha (Prosperous), and Samarth (Capable) Sikkim, and at the same time contribute meaningfully to a stronger India,” the Chief Minister said.

He congratulated Namchi Block in Namchi District, Chumbung Block in Soreng District, and Chongrang Block in Gyalshing District for being recognised as Aspirational Blocks for their outstanding performance. He also appreciated all districts for their improvements across key development indicators.
